2005-04-14 - Afternoon Glow

I was a little hesitant to post this because it is the sort of shot that loses impact when made too small. However, there's no other practical way of publishing it at the moment, so here it is!

I did a lot more editing on this one than normal - cloning to remove some distracting trees and powerlines, increased contrast and saturation and a bit of a crop. I wouldn't say it is one of my best shots but I think it is the most successful backlit shot that I've managed so far. Next time, I might try multiple, blended exposures to handle the wide dynamic range of a scene like this.

Jeroen Mulder Just brilliant once again. I don't mind any editing at all, especially not when they turn out like this. Really love your nature shots :-)
dv Amazing image! I love everything about it - the colors, the shadows, the light of the sun behind the tree.
Ali The Economic value of a tree: If left until it grows to 50yrs of age, it will have given the earth $196,250 worth of ecological benefits including things like oxygen, fertility & erosion control and humidity regulation. If cut down, the same tree would be worth about $590 dollars in lumber- 0.3% of it's ecological value......hmmmm
