2008-06-04 - Keep Left

Photographically speaking, there's nothing very special about this shot but for me, it represents a whole new world of photography that has become available to me with the arrival of my Nikon D3. I'm only beginning to see what this camera can do but so far I'm seriously impressed. This shot, for example, was taken hand held at 11pm under street lights. Unless I'd had a tripod with me (which I rarely do) I'd previously have never been able to get anything close to this.

Technical details: Nikon D3, 70-200VR, 130mm, F/2.8, 1/40s @ ISO 5000. Finished in Capture NX 2.0.

Todd How do you like NX2? I haven't used it yet.

One thing I wanted to mention is that on the D3, I have love my 70-200mm more than ever. On the D2x, it was kind of so-so, but I'm liking even 200mm wide open on the D3.
Stephen Cameron Hey Todd,

Capture NX2 is definitely a big improvement over the previous version. I've had a computer upgrade (Macbook Pro) since I last used it so that might be a lot of it but I think overall it has matured and I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can do with it.

That's good to know about the 70-200VR - it has always been my favourite lens and I can see it spending a lot of time on my D3 :-)
