2006-03-20 - Down the Line
There are those rare occasions when I can go out with a clear image in my mind and come back with the exact photo I was hoping for. It's what makes photography so enthralling. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of those occasions...
The fence pictured here is designed to keep deer in, which it seems to do very effectively. It also keeps people out. I didn't think this would be too much of a problem because every time I drove past a field like this, the deer were quite close to the fence. As I found out though, even captive deer are rather camera shy and the moment I stopped the car and got out, they headed for the hills (literally). I couldn't get within about 150m of them so I had give up my original photo idea of a deer bathed in golden light with a mountain backdrop. A little disappointing but you have to work with what you've got at the end of the day.
